Seychelles will take on Kenya in the second round of the Women’s Preliminary Competition for the Olympic Football Tournament – Los Angeles 2028, marking a significant milestone for women’s football in the country.

The draw, held on 29 April, placed Seychelles in Pot 3, setting up an exciting encounter against a strong Kenyan side. The tie will be played over two legs between 5–13 October, with both teams aiming to secure progression to the next stage of the competition.

This fixture represents Seychelles’ first-ever participation in the Olympic qualifiers, underlining the steady progress being made in the development of the women’s game locally. It is a landmark moment not only for the players and technical staff, but also for the broader football community in Seychelles.

The African qualification pathway for the 2028 Summer Olympics will see 35 teams competing across five rounds. With only two qualification spots available to represent the continent at the Games, the road to Los Angeles is expected to be highly competitive.

Despite the challenge ahead, Seychelles enters the competition with a sense of pride and determination. The opportunity to compete on this stage provides invaluable international exposure for the players and reflects the growing investment in women’s football development.

Facing Kenya, a nation with a more established presence in women’s football, will be a tough test. However, it also presents a valuable benchmark for Seychelles as they continue to build and strengthen their national team programme.

As anticipation builds for October, the focus will be on preparation, growth, and embracing the experience of competing at this level for the first time. Regardless of the outcome, Seychelles’ participation marks an important step forward and signals a promising future for women’s football in the country.
