The future of Seychelles football is brighter than ever as our young boys and girls proudly represented the nation at the first ever FIFA Indian Ocean U15 Festival in Madagascar from December 16 to 22, 2024. This event, made possible through the FIFA Forward Programme, brought together emerging football talents from Seychelles, Madagascar, and Comoros, providing a unique platform for skill development, competition, and cultural exchange.
More Than Just a Tournament
This festival was not just about winning matches; it was about nurturing young talent and fostering a love for the game. Players participated in a series of matches, training sessions, and educational workshops designed to enhance their footballing abilities while instilling essential values such as teamwork, respect, and inclusivity.
“As coaches, watching these young athletes grow on and off the pitch has been truly inspiring,” shared by Chris Yip-Au, Head of Women’s Football. “Their passion, determination, and eagerness to learn reaffirm our commitment to developing football at all levels in Seychelles.”
A Landmark Moment for Women’s Football
This festival also marked a significant milestone for women’s football in Seychelles. “I am incredibly proud to see our young female players gaining international exposure, competing with confidence, and proving that the future of the women’s game is full of potential.”
“Opportunities like these are crucial for the growth of women’s football,” Yip-Au shared after the event. “Our girls played with heart, learned invaluable lessons, and took a big step forward in their football journey. This is only the beginning, and we will continue to build on this momentum.”
A Collective Effort
None of this would have been possible without the support of FIFA, the host nation Madagascar, and all those working behind the scenes to create such a meaningful experience for these young athletes. Their dedication to youth football development ensures that young players in Seychelles and across the region have the opportunities they deserve to grow and succeed in the sport.
The Road Ahead
With experiences like the Indian Ocean U15 Festival, Seychelles football is on the right path. These young players return home stronger, wiser, and more determined, ready to apply what they’ve learned to future competitions and training.
This is just the beginning of an exciting journey for our next generation of football stars. Seychelles football is growing, and with the right support, these young talents will continue to make their mark on the international stage.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible! Let’s keep pushing forward!
