The 38th Sports Awards of the Year crowning ceremony marked a groundbreaking moment for women’s football in Seychelles, as female footballers received long-overdue recognition on the national stage.
Pascalina Moustache made history by being named Best Footballer of the Year and securing third place in the overall ranking for Best Female Athlete in Seychelles. This achievement is especially significant as it marks the first time ever that women’s football has had representation in the top 10 finalists for Athlete of the Year. Even more impressively, two footballers— Pascalina Moustache and Reena Esther —reached this milestone, a testament to the sport’s growing prominence and the exceptional talent emerging from Seychelles.
Young talent was also in the spotlight, with Keisha Moustache being awarded Best Young Footballer of the Year. Her recognition underscores the bright future of women’s football in Seychelles, as the sport continues to develop and produce top-tier athletes.
These achievements reflect the dedication, perseverance, and rising standards of women’s football in the country. With such milestones being reached, the sport is gaining momentum, opening doors for greater opportunities and future success.
Expressing pride in these historic accomplishments, Chris Yip-Au, head coach of the Seychelles women’s national football team, shared her optimism for the future:
“These milestones are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players. Having two of our athletes, Pascalina Moustache and Reena Esther, among the top 10 finalists for Athlete of the Year is unprecedented and signifies the growing influence of women’s football in Seychelles.
