On March 8, 2025, the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) proudly celebrated its second Women’s Football Day at Stad Popiler, marking another milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to develop the women’s game. Organized in collaboration with International Women’s Football Day, the event showcased young talent and reinforced the commitment to growing the sport at all levels.

The tournament featured two age categories—U15 and U17—played in a fast-paced 5v5 format. Schools from across the country competed with enthusiasm, demonstrating skill, teamwork, and passion for football.

Beyond the competition, the event emphasized the importance of mentorship and role models in the sport. Players from the Seychelles Women’s National Team took on the role of referees, ensuring fair play while inspiring the next generation of female footballers. Their presence was a powerful reminder that with dedication and support, young girls can aspire to reach the highest levels of the game.

“This event is not just about competition—it’s about building a strong foundation for women’s football in Seychelles. Seeing our national team players give back to the game in this way is inspiring for these young girls,” said Chris Yip-Au, Head of Women’s Football.

The Women’s Football Day celebration came on the heels of another major milestone—the Women’s Football Strategy Stakeholder Workshop, which took place earlier in the week. Led by Yip-Au and supported by FIFA expert Thuba Sibanda, the workshop marked the first phase in developing a long-term strategy to strengthen women’s football in Seychelles.

As SFF continues to implement structured initiatives, events like this serve as essential platforms to nurture talent, foster sportsmanship, and ensure that young girls have the opportunity to grow and thrive in football. With a clear vision for the future, the journey to elevate women’s football in Seychelles is well underway.
