FIFA Mentor Vicki Visits Seychelles to Support Women’s Football Development

The Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) had the honour of welcoming Vicki Linton, FIFA Mentor under the FIFA Elite Coach Mentorship Programme, for a week-long working visit aimed at strengthening the development of women’s football across the country.

Vicki serves as the mentor to Chris Yip-Au, Head Coach of the Seychelles Women’s National Team and Head of Women’s Football. While the pair meet monthly through virtual sessions, this was the first time Vicki had the opportunity to visit Seychelles in person — a milestone that greatly enhanced the learning experience for both coach and federation.

A Week of Learning, Observation, and Collaboration

During her stay, Vicki spent time observing training sessions, offering hands-on support, and meeting with SFF staff involved in the women’s football ecosystem. Her visit allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of the realities, challenges, and potential within the local environment.

“Having Vicki here was incredibly valuable,” said Chris Yip-Au.

“We normally discuss tactical ideas, problem-solving, and our playing style over monthly calls, but seeing everything firsthand gave her the full picture. Her guidance during on- and off-field sessions had an immediate impact on both myself and the staff.”

The visit included:

– Tactical discussions and analysis sessions

– On-field training support with the women’s national team

– Meetings with staff to share insights on structure, development pathways, and best practices

– Evaluation of Seychelles’ playing style and how it can be implemented across youth and senior levels

Perfect Timing Ahead of International Friendlies

Vicki’s arrival came at an ideal moment, as the Seychelles Women’s National Team was preparing for two international friendly matches in the November/December FIFA window.

Her expertise helped refine training sessions, sharpen team principles, and prepare the players for the intensity of international football.

“The timing couldn’t have been better,” Chris noted.

“Having her input during our match preparation phase was a huge boost. The players were able to learn directly from her, and the staff benefitted just as much.”

Strengthening the Pathway for Women’s Football

The visit also reinforced the importance of developing a clear and sustainable pathway for female players in Seychelles, which is a key focus under Chris’ leadership.

With almost half of the current senior squad consisting of players from the recent CJSOI U17 silver-medal winning team, the mentorship program is aligning seamlessly with Seychelles’ long-term vision to grow talent from youth through senior levels.

A Shared Commitment to Growth

Both Vicki and Chris expressed enthusiasm for the continued collaboration throughout the mentorship programme, which runs until 2026.

“I’m grateful for Vicki’s time, openness, and expertise,” Chris added.

“This visit has accelerated our progress in ways that virtual mentorship alone couldn’t achieve. It has motivated us even more to keep pushing for the growth of women’s football in Seychelles.”

Looking Forward

The Seychelles Football Federation extends its sincere thanks to FIFA and to Vicki for the support, dedication, and belief in the potential of the women’s game in Seychelles.

As the women’s football project continues to gain momentum, visits like this play a vital role in shaping the future. A future that looks brighter with every step.
